Shape and Pattern Activities and Games

Shape and pattern activities have been built into card and board games to provide enjoyable learning opportunities. Recognition of common 2D and 3D shapes, their definitions, attributes and names, are among the spatial concepts covered. Students need to be able to distinguish regular from irregular shapes, and to identify a range of shapes within their environment. Developing the ability to recognise repeating patterns, and to add to an established pattern or create a new one, are some of the pattern concepts included. Opportunities are given to create new patterns, as well as to build upon a range of different complexities of visual and numerical patterns.
